Is having a Radio Show cool?

I never intended to do a radio show for a living. I was a music major at the university of memphis in the early 90's when I noticed that we had a cool FM radio station on campus. I interviewed to get a job and I got one doing 6am-10am on wednesday mornings. The radio station was Jazz and I was a 19 year old white kid that had no clue about the music. But I did learn about Duke Ellington and Spyra Gyra before getting an internship on a Top 40 morning show about a year later.

I still remember the Univesity of Memphis radio station was on the bottom level of the Communications and Theatre building. I spent most of 1993-1995 hanging out there in the office and in the on air studio.

I had a hard time deciding what to major in college? I loved music but I was told that I would go broke with that major so after getting involved with the college radio station I changed my major to Communications. Not much better but I was very interested in broadcasting.

When I was a child I always wanted to do a TV or Radio show so in a way I was living out a dream. I never thought in college that I would be doing a radio show for a living over ten years later. But oddly enough I have earned decent cash and have had a pretty good time. Though at times I still think about chasing some of my other dreams that I will write about in my next article.

If you ever worked in college radio or went to the University of Memphis comment on this please...that would be cool.
